Heads & Safeguarding Governors
All face to face safeguarding training is cancelled until further notice. We are currently converting our courses to 'virtual' training and we will email all DSL/D's to let them know when this is available.
- Safer Recruitment Training - see below.
The Training Pathway for Safeguarding Governors is:
- Governors Safeguarding Training - see below
- Safer Recruitment Training if this is part of their role on the Governing Body
Safer Recruitment Training:
Safer Recruitment Training is mandatory for the recruitment of staff in education settings. At least one member of any recruitment panel must have the appropriate training. Organisation leaders should use their professional judgement to determine the training needs of their staff and their school. This training is available as either:
Online or face-to-face training from the NSPCC: Safer Recruitment in Education Training
Face-to-face Safer Recruitment Training for Governors through Learn Sheffield Governor Training, tel. 0114 2507417
Governors Safeguarding Training:
This training is required for all Safeguarding Governors but is also useful for other members of the Governing Body and for Head Teachers. It is not the same as the 'whole-school' Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training, although Governors are welcome to attend this within their school.
The training incorporates local and national guidance to discuss:
Definitions of safeguarding and the Governing Body Safeguarding Role, Sept 20A
Safeguarding policies and procedures in education settings
Safer schools, safer recruitment and allegations against staff
Requirements for staff safeguarding training
Ofsted Inspections (safeguarding focus)
The Safeguarding Annual Audit from Head Teachers
We will be adding details about 'virtual' training once they have been finalised.
