Sheffield Safe Sleep
Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board (now called The Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership SCSP) and partners launched a campaign in March 2011, to reduce the number of Sudden Infant Deaths (SID) in Sheffield. Over 300 babies still die each year in the UK as a result of SID and Sheffield has nearly twice the average UK rate. A target has been set to reduce the SID rate in Sheffield from 0.73/1000 live births to 0.3/1000 live births by 2020 (Current national average is 0.38/1000 live births). A delivery plan is in place, led by the Safe Sleep Work Stream of the Sheffield Infant Mortality Strategy, to work towards achieving this target.
Sheffield agencies are working together to provide a consistent message to all Sheffield families, which includes the leaflets and posters below to promote the safe sleep message to professionals and to parents:
An E-learning course has been developed for professionals in all agencies and is now available on the Safeguarding Children Training page.
The Safer Sleep Awareness Resource Pack is now available for professional use.
