Children Protection Conferences

What is a Child Protection Conference?

A child protection conference is convened when someone under the age of 18 years old has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and an assessment by a social worker from Children's Social Care indicates that a child protection plan might be necessary.

Professionals attending the conference are expected to report about their involvement with the children, young people, parents or carers and contribute to the decision about whether the child or young person is at risk of significant harm and if a child protection plan is needed.

In Sheffield we use the 'signs of safety' model for child protection conferences, involving parents as much as possible and helping them to understand the concerns of professionals.
