1. Raise safeguarding concerns at the right time

  • DSL/DSDs contact Sheffield Safeguarding Hub on 0114 2734855 if they are concerned about the safety and wellbeing of a child. This includes concerns about extremism and radicalisation
  • Always use the Threshold of Need guidance to support and inform decision-making about referral: Early Help Assessment and Threshold of Need 

2. Engage in Monitoring and Compliance activity

  • Early Years Safeguarding Audit 25-26: 
  • Please complete the Early Year Safeguarding Audit by opening the guidance document below.
  • The link to completing the Audit is in the guidance document
  • There is a 'paper copy' attached for you to make notes.
  • Please do not submit the 'paper copy'. it will not be accepted.
  • Early Years Audit 25-26 – Fill out form

    3. Follow Sheffield Processes and procedures,

    4. Have the correct safeguarding policies and procedures in place

    • All EYFS Settings must have;

    • a Safeguarding Policy
    • a Personal Care Policy, which is in line with The Crime and Policing Act 2026.
    • This act removes the exemption for supervised unpaid activity, meaning volunteers engaging in regulated activity should be vetted in the same way an employee is

    • A Trips and Visits procedure
    • All Risk Assessments for trips and visits must be written down.
    • This includes regular trips to the park, library, shops, etc.
    • For these regular trips a risk assessment can be reused. Always take into account if anything has changed (e.g. roadworks, change of entrance door, etc.)
    • If an individual child has needs which can add risk to a trip or visit then there must be a risk assessment for that child.

    5. Follow the Early Years Safeguarding Training Offer
