Disability & physical health
A child or young person who is disabled is automatically a 'Child in Need' (Children Act 1989 (s17 (10)) and may be vulnerable, because without the input of identified services, a disabled child is unlikely to reach or maintain a satisfactory level of health or development.
Parental illness or disability may also make a child or young person in the family vulnerable and the family may well be in need of support services.
Below are some relevant resources including Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership (SCSP) fact sheets, policies and protocols and training to help you to understand and respond appropriately to child or adult disability and health issues.
