Child Protection Plans

Children who have a Child Protection Plan

Children who have a Child Protection Plan are involved in the child protection system because they have been abused or injured in some way, or who are thought to be at risk of injury, abuse or neglect. They have a social worker, and will also work with other professionals.

The List of Children who have a Child Protection Plan used to be called the Child Protection Register. It is kept by Sheffield Safeguarding Children Service and is strictly confidential. Information from the List is available only to professional people such as health visitors, teachers, doctors, police officers and social workers.

Every local authority is required to hold a List of Children with a Child Protection Plan. If a child on the List moves out of the Sheffield area, information is passed on to the new local authority area.

If your name is placed on the List this does not affect the rights of your parent/s, and does not mean that you will be removed from their care. This can only happen when there is an order from the Family Court.

If your name is placed on the List, core group meetings will take place every month to discuss the progress of the Child Protection Plan and three months after the conference (and every six months if necessary), a Child Protection Review Conference will meet to decide if it is still necessary for your name to be on the List.
