Information for the Licensed Trade

Information for the Licensed Trade

The licensing reforms introduced by the Licensing Act 2003, initiated efforts to ensure the provision of a family friendly culture at licensed premises, where children can learn to socialise, integrate and drink responsibly within a safe environment.

Under the Act, the Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board is a Responsible Authority. We have commissioned the Licensing Project to execute the statutory duties of the Safeguarding Children Board and assist Sheffield City Council Licensing Authority and licensees in meeting the objectives to safeguard children at licensed premises.

The Licensing Act 2003 leaflet introduces the Licensee to the Licensing Act 2003 and what Licensees can do to reduce risk to children on their premises.

If you operate licensed premises in Sheffield city centre you may be interested in joining the Best Bar None quality scheme.

The Children's Charter

As part of a publicity campaign to remind adults of their responsibilities to supervise their children on licensed premises and to promote some 'keep safe house rules' a poster in two different sizes, A3 and A4, has been produced:

Guidance for Off Licences

The Licensing Project has produced the advice leaflet Safeguarding Children: A Guide for the Off Licence Trade  in partnership with South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield Licencewatch and Sheffield City Council Trading Standards to advise people working at premises with an off licence trade about how to protect children.
