Child Sexual Exploitation and the Hospitality Trade

General Licensed Premises

The Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership works closely with other statutory authorities and the licensed trade to promote risk management in relation to child sexual exploitation. We provide guidance and training to help licensed traders identify risk and report concerns at different types of licensed locations, so that children remain safe and businesses operate responsibly.

For licensed operators the tools on this page can be downloaded and used to inform staff training and build 'due diligence' records to help evidence that you are a responsible operator.

Bite-sized training resource videos

The Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership has produced these bite-sized videos and training resources, to raise awareness of child exploitation and how it can involve the taxi and hotel trades, if those trades are misused by perpetrators.  Take a look at our Child exploitation awareness training for the hotel trade Say Something if you See Something – Operation Make Safe

The "Say Something If You See Something" Awareness Campaign

The Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership, along with the Sexual Exploitation Service and South Yorkshire Police, has been working closely with the National Working Group Network for Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation in the hospitality trade.

In June 2013 a local pilot of the national "Say Something If You See Something" campaign was implemented. This included the provision of training and 'due diligence' materials to people working in the hotel trade so that they can recognise and report signs of suspected activity.  If you would like to know more about the national "Say Something If You See Something" campaign and how to develop a local campaign in your area, contact the National Working Group Network for Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation.

If you would like to view a pre-recorded version of Sheffield’s Operation Makesafe training which is designed for people working in the hotel and Bed and Breakfast trade, please see following video:
