Safeguarding Workshop - Child Neglect and Policing: Working Together to Safeguard Children

Tuesday 17 November | 1.30pm-3pm | Teams Online

What role do the police play when concerns about child neglect arise? When does neglect become a criminal matter, and how do police and other agencies work together to protect children?

Delivered by colleagues from South Yorkshire Police, this workshop will explore the police response to child neglect, including the factors that may constitute a criminal offence and the thresholds for police involvement. Participants will gain a better understanding of how police and children's social care collaborate to assess risk, share information, and safeguard children experiencing neglect.

The session will also examine how the police use SHAREDD (the cousin to the NSPCC Graded Care Profile 2) to identify and evidence neglect supporting effective assessment and intervention.

This workshop is suitable for practitioners and managers across all agencies who work with children and families and want to strengthen their understanding of neglect and multi-agency safeguarding practice.
